DR. WILLIAM SUH

Dr. William Suh double-majored in Biomedical Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Miami under a four-year academic scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with Honors (General Honors Program).  While he was there, he received two additional Engineering scholarships for his hard work and dedication to his studies.  He continued studying engineering and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Master of Science in General Engineering (currently the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering) with a full academic scholarship.  After graduate school, Dr. Suh worked in the engineering industry for six years as a Systems Engineer in rocket navigation.  The switch from Biomedical Engineering to Systems Engineering was purely due to a negligible interest from the faculty at that point in time.  There were two professors doing Biomedical Engineering, but one had different interests then myself, and then when I arrived at school, the other one ended up going on sabbatical.  Therefore, I was forced to find a different Master’s thesis topic and advisor.

After getting a flavor of corporate life, Dr. Suh decided to go back to the biomedical field where he first started his educational journey.  After careful consideration, he decided to further his education and become a Chiropractic Physician since he has always had an interest in the biomechanics of the human body and taking care of others.  Dr. Suh received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2007 from the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago.  Dr. Suh worked in a private, multidisciplinary practice in the suburbs of Chicago immediately following his graduation, until moving to Singapore in 2011.  Dr. Suh founded the Singapore Bone and Joint Clinic to continue his passion for helping patients.

Dr. Suh currently treats patients with musculoskeletal conditions in private practice in the Katong area along East Coast Road in Singapore.  He is able to apply his engineering knowledge and experience to both simple and complex biomechanical problems that his patients encounter.  Dr. Suh’s training in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries comes from a solid foundation Chiropractic Medicine.  He also specializes in Sports Medicine, Orthopedics, Physiotherapy, and Strength and Conditioning.  These specialized areas are needed for most of the patients that present to his office.

Dr. Suh has attended formal post-graduate training in Internal Disorders in Chicago from the Council on Diagnosis and Internal Disorders (CDID) which is a specialty council of the American Chiropractic Association.  Other postdoctoral education and training includes various courses in:  Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Radiology, Neurology, Biomechanics, Functional and Integrative Medicine, Rehabilitation, Physical Medicine, Nutrition, Weight Loss, and scoliosis.

Dr. Suh has a solid understanding of sports which include:  sport-specific training, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, blood chemistry and nutrition.  Dr. Suh has worked with many athletes and sports teams, and has been the attending physician, physiotherapist, or athletic trainer at many local taekwondo, football, basketball, and baseball competitions in the United States and Singapore.

Dr. Suh also enjoys giving health care seminars to various companies and sports organizations on injury prevention, orthopedic conditions, sports performance, ergonomics, and nutrition.  By sharing his knowledge and experience, it is an easy way to give back to the community.

In addition, Dr. Suh has been an expert consultant on various local and national projects in Singapore that involve ergonomics, biomechanics, anthropometry, and human factor assessments.  Feel free to contact him if you need recommendations for your next medical device, design document, or project.

One sport that Dr. Suh has a passion for is Taekwondo (martial arts).  He began studying Taekwondo and Hapkido in 1987 and is currently a 5th Degree Blackbelt under the World Taekwondo orgainization.  Dr. Suh was a certified Taekwondo Coach under the USA Taekwondo organization and is currently a Level 2 Coach under the Singapore Taekwondo Federation.  He has also coached and trained local, state, and national level athletes; and has also medaled in the same competitions.  Dr. Suh has been training and teaching Taekwondo under the leadership of multiple Grandmasters (9th Degree Blackbelts).  Dr. Suh has also trained in Aikido, Kumdo, and weapons.  Currently, Dr. Suh trains and teaches at J.H. Kim Taekwondo in Singapore.  He regularly teaches the competition sparring team.
